전통은, 시간 속에서 스스로 변한다. 마장축산물시장은 단순한 ‘시장’이 아니다. 축산물 유통의 핵심 거점이자, 도심 물류의 축이며, 도시 안의 고기 문화가 살아 있는 플랫폼이다. 그러나 시장의 구조는 변화하는 기능을 따라가지 못하고 있다. 물류, 식당, 주거의 경계는 흐려졌고, 마장축산물시장은 불어나는 유통업체를 수용하지 못한다. 이 프로젝트는 그 흐트러진 경계를 다시 엮는 작업이다. 사람과 고기, 유통과 식사, 생산과 소비가 맞닿는 지점을 건축적으로 조직하고, 시장의 변화하는 기능을 담을 수 있는 새로운 틀을 제안한다.
Tradition evolves over time. Majang Livestock Market is not merely a “market,” but a vital hub of meat distribution, urban logistics, and culinary culture. Yet its structure lags behind its shifting functions—logistics, dining, and housing now blur together. This project reweaves those boundaries and proposes a new architectural framework to organize the intersections of people and meat, distribution and dining, production and consumption.
Analysis
마장축산물시장은 서울 도심에 위치한 대규모 축산물 유통 거점이다. 도매업 중심의 다양한 정육 관련 업체들로 구성되어 있지만, 이러한 기능적 집중은 오히려 시장의 외부와의 단절을 낳고 있다. 폐쇄적 구조, 불명확한 경계, 그리고 급격히 늘어난 유통업체의 수요는 시장 내부의 공간적 혼재와 기능적 충돌을 야기하고 있다. 물류, 식당, 주거 등이 얽혀 있음에도 이를 수용할 수 있는 적절한 조직이 부재한 상황이다.
대상지는 마장축산물시장의 중심부에 위치하며 양측 아케이드와 직접 맞닿아 있다. 서측의 고산자로 일대는 대중교통이 집중된 지역으로, 이와 연결되는 보행 환경의 개선은 시장 접근성 향상의 중요한 과제가 된다. 이는 주민과 방문객이 자연스럽게 시장 내부로 유입될 수 있는 흐름을 만드는 단초가 된다. 대상지는 시장 내 유통지와 외곽 주거지의 경계에 놓여 있어, 주민이 편하게 접근할 수 있는 생활의 면과 유통 중심의 산업적 면이 공존하는 이중적 경계 공간으로 작동한다.
Majang Livestock Market is a major meat distribution hub in central Seoul, but its closed structure and unclear boundaries have isolated it from the city. The growing mix of logistics, dining, and residential functions lacks a coherent organizational framework.
The site lies at the core of Majang Livestock Market, directly connected to arcades and adjacent to a major public transport corridor, highlighting the need for improved pedestrian access. Positioned between residential and distribution zones, it serves as a dual-edge boundary connecting everyday life with wholesale logistics.
Concept
기존 마장축산물시장은 유통업체에 둘러싸여 외부와 단절된 구조를 가지고 있다. 본 프로젝트는 유입 가능한 보행 흐름을 새롭게 조직하고, 그 중심에 적절한 규모의 시장 시설을 제안함으로써 인접 유통업체 및 거리, 마장축산물시장 전반에 영향력을 만들어낸다. 더 이상 외부로부터 고립된 시장이 아닌, 도시 조직과 호흡하는 열린 시장의 가능성을 그려낸다.
The existing Market is surrounded by distribution businesses, creating a structure isolated from its surroundings. This project reorganizes pedestrian flows and introduces a market facility at its core, generating influence across the broader Majang market area. It envisions a shift from an isolated enclave to an open market that interacts and breathes with the urban fabric.
Program
마장축산물시장의 지하 공간을 활용해 단순한 도매 유통을 넘어 온라인 시장으로의 확장을 위한 자동화 도심형 물류센터를 제안한다. 새벽 시간대에 집중되는 유통 특성을 고려하여, 방문객의 승용차 동선과의 간섭을 최소화할 수 있다고 판단하였고, 이에 따라 지하 주차장 진입 동선 중 일부를 하역장으로 분기시키는 계획을 수립하였다.
This project proposes an automated underground logistics center at Majang Livestock Market, expanding into online distribution while minimizing conflict with visitor traffic by diverting part of the parking circulation to loading during early morning hours.
